GIMPShop dot Com

That subject line was hard for me to write. I'm too used to writing GIMPShop dot Net.

It seems I am not the only fan of GIMPShop that is willing to create a full-on site to proclaim it. My new friend Josh has decided to throw his hat into the ring as well. And I would like to welcome him to the Net.

His site is new, and he is still in the process of putting it up - but it is functional. It's a very simple, straightforward site promoting GIMPShop - complete with download links and explainations of what GIMPShop is.

Some may question why I'm linking to a competing site - much less actually promoting it - well, I don't see it as a competion. Both GIMPShop dot Net and dot Com have the same goal - to promote and explain GIMPShop. I think of GIMPShop dot Com (and he probably would type it simply Gimpshop.com) as a companion site to GIMPShop dot Net rather than a competitor.

Welcome Josh. Let's get the word out - there's a free, cross-platform, open source, easy-to-use, uber powerful, image editor out there, and the world needs to know about it. 8^)

I just wanted to say that I hope our dual-positivity in this effort to promote GIMPshop helps to make people aware of how amazing it really is. I know I'm constantly telling my friends and the like about it, and am glad to finally be able to put a site up that promotes it in all its glory. Good luck to you, and thanks for the commentary. :)

Don't link to this jerk, Chad. He's stealing Scott's bandwidth, he's basically just copied and pasted code from your or Scott's site and he's not giving credit to any of the sites where he's pulling links and files from. He's asking for donations?!?! For what?

After talking with Scott, I've changed the links from that site to my own hosting. The .exes are own the person who is providing me with the site's server, and the others are on rapidsharing.com.

I know that anonymous is obviously a skeptic, but in due time I'll have a brand new site up with all sorts of information, but hopefully keeping the same straightforward philosophy... less words, more of a "grab-and-go" kind of site as opposed to one that is a place to read a ton of information. That's what Gimpshop.net is for, and it does a very good job at it. :)

Also, just as an addendum, Radio Lima is translating gimpshop.com into Spanish, also, so that will help get the word out to those who don't speak English, which is a feature that I don't currently have on my site right now.

The translation to Spanish has now occurred! :)

I just stumbled onto this page after reading through GIMPshop's Wikipedia entry. It seems that Scott Moschella (the person behind GIMPshop) has a problem with this Josh person above. According to this entry on MetaFilter (http://ask.metafilter.com/144788/What-are-my-intellectual-property-rights-here), Mr. Moschella is incredibly unhappy with gimpshop.com and is willfully holding up updating the software because of the dispute.

I also noticed that Josh is offering an "updated" version of GIMPshop, which is "conveniently" wrapped up inside InstallIQ software. This installer urges you to install unnecessary software and attempts to change your web browser's homepage. Read the last paragraph in this review: http://betanews.com/2012/01/20/now-you-can-get-gimps-power-with-photoshops-look-and-feel/ (note: I am not one of the commenters in that article).

"Thanks", Josh, for killing GIMPshop with your bogus "fan site"!
