GIMPShop is Apple's featured download

I don't know how long this will stay up there, but at the moment (10:47 AM Eastern, Friday June 23, 2006) GIMPShop is Apple's featured download in the Unix/Open source category. (No longer the featured download as of July 8.)

And it seems that people are downloading it like crazy, since when I clicked on "download" I got a 509 Bandwidth exceeded message.

If you would like to download GIMPShop, here are some mirrors for you.

GIMPShop Downloads:
  • For Windows 98 +
  • For Linux (RPM)
  • For Solaris
  • For Mac OS X - Universal Binary!
  • (Mirror of Mac OS X Binary)
  • Source Code
  • Update: While GIMPShop is no longer the featured download - it can still be found listed on the Apple website.

Beginning Gimp: From Novice to Professional

Akkana Peck has written a very thorough introduction to the GIMP. In fact, I'd call it more of a definitive guide than just an introduction. This book is great for the completely new user, but even the seasoned veteran can learn quite a bit from "Beginning GIMP: From Novice to Professional".

Covering everything from where to get and how to install the GIMP to how to use the powerful built-in scripting language Script-Fu, which allows users to use and program scripts for repeatable actions, like adding bevel or glass effects. Despite its thoroughness - it's written in a easy-to-understand way that anyone can benefit from.

While this book is aimed at the GIMP, much of it applies to our very own GIMPShop. If you want to learn more about the GIMP or GIMPShop, you own it to yourself to pick up this book.

You can learn more about this awesome book on Akkana's website - GIMPBook.com.
